Who We Are
With more than 20 years of experience, AeroClave, LLC has become a global leader in the design and development of large-scale decontamination systems for military aircraft, rotorcraft, land vehicles, and sensitive equipment.
Founded in 2003 in response to the global SARS epidemic, AeroClave began with a mission to develop an innovative new approach to decontaminating large commercial aircraft – and to help stop the spread of potential pandemic-producing pathogens around the world.
In 2006, just three years after its founding, AeroClave unveiled its first prototype – a revolutionary new system that could fully sanitize the interior of any aircraft. Unlike traditional methods that relied on the use of harsh, corrosive chemicals, AeroClave’s groundbreaking new system was designed to uniformly raise the temperature and relative humidity inside the aircraft to predetermined levels for a set period time - effectively neutralizing any biological threat without harming the aircraft or any its sensitive equipment.
This innovative approach proved to be an immediate success. During testing at the FAA’s Civilian Aeromedical Institute, AeroClave’s system achieved a complete 100% kill of all simulated pathogens dispersed throughout a 747 aircraft.
The company’s early success quickly drew the attention of the U.S. military. In 2011, AeroClave entered into a contract with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory to further develop its technology and build a system specifically for the military’s C-130 aircraft. Later that same year, AeroClave debuted its first military prototype, achieving an impressive 6-log sterilization of a C-130 at Little Rock Air Force Base.
In 2019, after several years of additional development, AeroClave was awarded the prime contract the U.S. military’s Joint Biological Agent Decontamination System (JBADS) program.
The closed-loop system AeroClave developed under the program incorporated the use of an air-tight, insulated enclosure – capable of fully encapsulating a C-130 – to precisely control the temperature and relative humidity levels both inside and outside of the aircraft during the entire decontamination process.
This unique feature, coupled with AeroClave’s precision-control technology, allows users to tightly control the environmental conditions within the enclosure for extended periods of time – and has become the cornerstone of AeroClave’s decontamination systems ever since.
To this day, JBADS is the only decontamination system in the world capable of decontaminating the interior and exterior of a C-130 in a single process. And while AeroClave prides itself on producing one of the largest and most effective aircraft decontamination systems on the planet, it continues to further develop its technology to take on future threats that emerge in today’s ever-changing modern warfare environment.
